OpenDNS redirecting could be very frustrating

OpenDNS’s search redirect problem solved.

If you have OpenDNS configured in your PC, all invalid URLs or searches from Firefox location bar or Internet Explorer address bar will be directed through it’s servers that is  google.guide.opendns.com. Not to worry, here is a simple tips of how to continue using Google search without removing OpenDNS.

OpenDNS

Solution

  • type about:config in the address bar and hit enter
  • click I’ll be careful, I promise!
    iwillbecareful
  • type keyword.url in the Filter field
  • keywordurl
  • and set the value http://www.google.com/search?q=  (or whatever you use, i.e. http://www.google.ca/search?q=
    setavalue
  • Also make sure that the value of keyword.enabled is set to TRUE. That’s it - now any query you type in the Firefox Address bar will go to Google, not OpenDNS guide.

So, there is no reason to be frustrated

I switched to OpenDNS yesterday and I’m about to switch back over this issue. I also find the OpenDNS responses vague, evasive and even a little insulting. Vague and evasive in that they suggest that tweaking preferences may help this problem, when the OpenDNS knowledge base says directly that the Firefox "I’m feeling lucky" feature is not supported. And it won’t be, because the "search" page is your source of revenue. Revenue is OK, of course, but be straight with us. It doesn’t work, right?
